PRESS RELEASE: For Immediate Release

Washington, DC — 17 October 2005. “Far Flung is an eccentric travelogue of inner and outer journeys,” states Anne C. Fisher. Far Flung opens at the Anne C. Fisher Gallery with a reception on Friday, 21 October, 6–8pm, to which the public is welcome.

Far Flung includes works by area artists Karey Kessler, ink on paper drawings, Laura Seldman, polaroid transfers and Marcie Wolf-Hubbard, mixed media collages.

Kessler creates intriguing maps that are at once mystical and mundane. They are maps of memory, depicting real and imaginary, know and magical spaces. These spaces include the earth, its celestial surroundings, and the realm of fantasy and myth. Kessler’s drifting automatic line drawings evoke emotions, moods and places.

Seldman documents photographically a range of American visual classics found in hometowns and along country roads and waterways. Her work illuminates the stories and memories that connect the past and the present. In a process that blends photography and watercolor, Seldman creates appealing hand produced transfers of her images in limited editions.

Wolf-Hubbard’s colorful collages are about the feelings and memories attached to places she has been or that she can imagine having gone even in a different era. She sees and records the colors of the Mediterranean, the bridges, the roads and the canals, as well as bits of her own narrative amidst foreign voices. Her collages are fantasies-fantastic voyages into her personal time and space.

The exhibition will continue through 12 November at the Anne C. Fisher Gallery at Canal Square in Georgetown, 1054 31st St NW, Mezzanine.

Gallery hours are Tuesday, 12–3pm and Friday and Saturday, 12–6pm. More information at 202.625.7555 or www.annecfishergallery.com.
