PRESS RELEASE: For Immediate Release

Washington, DC — 4 November 2005. “South American Holiday brings together the work of four internationally celebrated artists from South America who are living in Washington,” states Anne C. Fisher. The exhibition includes artists Joan Belmar (Chile), Luis Scotti (Uruguay), Patricia Secco (Brazil), Helga Thomson (Argentina). South American Holiday opens at the Anne C. Fisher Gallery with a reception on Friday, 18 November, 6–8pm, to which the public is welcome.

Joan Belmar’s intricate mixed media collages on paper and on canvas are abstract, introspective, spontaneous and original. Shapes, often circular and colorful are heavily layered. Surprises occur as recognizable and at times even unsettling shapes emerge from the complex ground he creates.

Luis Scotti, an internationally acclaimed master printer, shows prints based on his original work. Using variations on a single image, he demonstrates both the versatility of printmaking and his exceptional skill in this medium.

Patricia Secco stops home briefly in Washington to show new abstract works in acrylic on paper and on canvas in South American Holiday after her recent highly regarded solo exhibition in Rio de Janeiro. In December, she will exhibit her work at the Florence Biennial.

Helga Thomson shows her recent works in a variety of media including hanging cut out paper sculptures and otherworldly prints from her series entitled Download. She will also debut her new DVD, entitled Zapatos Blancos, that includes original music composed and performed by her son.

The exhibition will continue through 13 January, 2006, at the Anne C. Fisher Gallery at Canal Square in Georgetown, 1054 31st St NW, Mezzanine.

Gallery hours are Tuesday, 12–3pm and Friday and Saturday, 12–6pm. More information at 202.625.7555 or www.annecfishergallery.com.
